many people misunderstand the essential of mathematics. many think that mathematics is just a tool. it is a tool. however, it's not just a tool. when they say mathematics is the queen of knowledge, it indicates that mathematics not just a tool to be used in other subject. it is much more than that.
many think mathematics just a number, calculation, geometry, and they shrinking the meaning behind mathematics so much. in my point of view, mathematics is the way we solve a problems. for example, people discover number because they need to express certain amount, algebra also created when there is a need to figure out unknown. thus, in a simple way we can say that mathematics is the knowledge to solving a problem. however, one need to understand that in mathematics there is pattern, logic, and reason. so, it also cannot be said that mathematics is just a way to solve a problem.i as a mathholic can say that mathematics is the knowledge to solve a problem by mathematizing (doing mathematics). and you can also see that all of knowledge in mathematics first create to solve a problem. and all mathematics knowledge is rooted on problem. therefore, mathematics and problem cannot be separated completely (as for many students mathematics is the root of the problem..hehehehe).
